[31 for 21] ~ Slacker and Snowfall

I am a slacker.

Actually, I have a pretty good reason for not blogging yesterday, but I still feel like a slacker.  I mean, come on!  I said I was making a commitment to blog for 31 days.  So, please forgive the slack-age!!  I was actually out of town with some women from my church, and the place we were staying had no cell phone or internet reception.  It was a great chance to unwind, to get to know some people better, to have some great conversations, and to make some comedic memories!  But, no internet = no blogging:)

It snowed today.  The first snowfall of the year.
My kiddos were very intrigued this morning, and watched curiously out the window for quite some time!  I did have a moment of blissful contentment ~ looking out at the beautiful, fast-falling snow beginning to accumulate on the grass and sidewalk, transforming my neighborhood from a dying-autumn-atmosphere to a pristine, winter wonderland.  The moment was cherished, and augmented by the enthusiasm and wide-eyed wonder of my children.

It ended when I walked out the door though:)  It all came rushing back to me ~ the soggy-feet, the blistering wind, the biting cold, the scraping of car windows, the bundling up of children, the next 8 months of my life!  Why do I live in Calgary again?!?!

Anyway, at least I got some cute pics of my kids:)

All In a Winter’s Day…

Resolutions.

By about this time in January, many people who started the year out with fabulous resolutions and steely determination are knee-deep in the mire of unfulfilled self-imposed expectations or exceedingly lofty goals for the new year.

I am pleased to announce that yesterday, our family followed through on one of our resolutions.  My husband and I decided that one goal for our family was to try and do something unique and out-of-the-ordinary as a family.  It does not have to be extravagant or expensive, but simply outside of the norm.

Yesterday, we went snowshoeing!

Snow5

Let me fill you in on a little secret; snowshoeing W.K (with kids) is a completely different experience than snowshoeing B.K (before kids) ever was!  There is about thirty times as much stuff needed ~ from diapers, to warm clothes, to snowsuits, to hats, to mittens, to boots, to extra blankets, to backpacks for carrying our precious cargo.  I sincerely felt as though I was ready for a nap with the amount of effort it took us just to load up the car!

Snowshoeing with an extra 25-30 pounds on your back is not only a unique adventure, but is also the best workout I’ve had since before I first got pregnant!  You know something though?  For all of the extra “hassle” (or what some would call a hassle) of trying to snowshoe with kids, it was such a great experience!

Our kids had a great time, and were happy the whole time (except for about 30 seconds when Jake’s mitten fell off and his hand got cold).  We got to get out and experience the majesty and beauty of the mountains that we are blessed to live so close to.

Our spirits were encouraged as we realized that we were capable of doing it with kids.  And we were blessed by the company of friends we were with.

All in all, not bad for a winter’s day…

Bring on the next resolution:)
