Just a quick update tonight, and some very funny pictures!
Those of you who have been following our story for a while will know that Jake wears a hearing device, as he currently has what is called “conductive hearing loss” due to fluid build-up in his ears. The easy solution: put tubes in and drain the fluid, thus enabling Jake to hear. The reality: his ears are too small for tubes. So, we wear the hearing device to help him with language acquisition, until his ears are big enough for tubes (for the more detailed version, look here…).
We had a follow-up last week with the audiologist, who basically told us that his ears have grown (hooray!), but that they are still too small (boo!) for tubes. So, we wait. And we continue to struggle to keep the hearing device on.
When we first received the headband (for a more detailed version of what the hearing device is, check out this post…) Jake was so little, that it did not seem like such a big deal if he didn’t wear it all the time. There were more important things on this momma’s plate, like mastering gross motor skills such as crawling, sitting, and walking. But now, as we approach Jake’s 2nd birthday, I sense the urgency to provide the best hearing experience possible, so that he can comprehend, and learn to express himself through language. It feels like this process has dragged on far too long, and I’m getting tired of waiting.
On another note, my children both got haircuts yesterday. It was Cole’s first haircut ever! So, I thought I’d post some cute pics!
